Archery Season 2008
Season Dates: September 22nd – December 31st
Application Availability: May 2008
Residents and non residents may apply for an “any deer” tag. “Any
deer” means the license holder may harvest either a buck OR a doe.
There are an unlimited number of licenses available for this season.
Residents and non residents may have in their possession one “any
deer” tag and may also apply for various antlerless tags as well per
state law. Please visit
www.sdgfp.info for complete laws and
regulations. Pheasant Crest will assist you in the application
process. All dates are tentative and subject to change without prior
notice
Clients visiting Pheasant Crest for the first time can expect world
class accommodations, gourmet food, abundant wildlife, and first
rate guides. We will work very hard to ensure that your hunt will be
everything you expect and much more.

Our deer herd is in excellent condition. Eastern South Dakota has
experienced very mild winters for the past five years which has
resulted in excellent fawning and overall health of the herd. Like
most managed herds, our herd has a slightly above average age
structure. The South Dakota subspecies of Whitetails is second only
to the Canadian Whitetail in body size and weight. Typical antler
score of the South Dakota subspecies ranges from 130” to 160”. At
Pheasant Crest you can expect to see bucks from 1 ˝ to 5 ˝ years of
age. There are excellent numbers of 2 ˝ and 3 ˝ year old bucks. Our
doe numbers are excellent.
As
we continue to manage this herd more carefully we will only allow
the harvest of 3 ˝ year old bucks and older as well as adult does 2
˝ years of age or older. This will continue to ensure a balanced
herd in quantity and quality. Our 2 ˝ year old bucks may score as
high as 120” and our 3 ˝ year old bucks may be in excess of 140”.
The typical buck that is most common at Pheasant Crest is from 1 ˝
to 3 ˝ years old. The average score that you can expect of our
mature bucks is 120” to 150”. There are larger bucks that have been
harvested that have scored in excess of 190” but that is more of the
exception than the rule.
Clients may harvest one “any deer” and up to one additional
“antlerless” deer. If you wound a deer and we do not recover it
after exhausting all possibilities, your hunt is considered over for
that particular tag and you pay in full. If you harvest an animal outside of our
management requirements there is a $500.00 fine to be paid before
you depart. Pheasant Crest guides will assist you in aging deer on
the hoof so we can avoid unfortunate circumstances.
Your hunt is for 5 full days and is fully guided. All arrivals will
be Sunday afternoons after 3PM. Your hunt begins Monday morning and
ends when you fill your tag or Saturday evening. Departures must be
Sunday before noon.

Rifle Hunts 2008

Application Availability: August 2007
Residents may apply for various licenses which are available by
county. Pheasant Crest has property in four different counties and
will assist all clients with the application process. Non residents
may apply after the first two resident drawings, approximately
October 20th. In the last several years there have been good numbers
of leftover tags available for nonresidents in two of our four
counties. Please visit
www.sdgfp.info for complete laws and
regulations. Pheasant Crest will assist you in the application
process. All dates are tentative and subject to change without prior

requirements there is a $500.00 fine to be paid before you depart.

This is a fully guided hunt. One guide per two hunters will be our
policy. Under certain circumstances guiding will be one on one.
Hunting will range from tree stands to ground blinds. Spot and
stalk will be extra due to the extra time necessary to do it
correctly. Rifle hunting in the open prairies of South Dakota is a
unique hunt! All hunts are three days due to our short season.
